BadLands Grill & Whiskey Saloon
BadLands' concept is firmly based on coupling the finest Whiskey experience with a Burger & Fresh LA-MEX Cuisine that boasts only fresh ingredients, which are then uniquely prepared and beautifully presented. The founders of BadLands are deeply rooted in Acadiana and has owned/operated many restaurants in the area, which is why our menu consists of so many recipes from Lafayette, Louisiana.
The award winning cuisine is augmented by a thoughtful facility design and décor with a fun and festive environment that is reminiscent of the Wild West. While appropriate for families, live entertainment on some evenings also draws patrons to gather at BadLands after the traditional dinner hour to enjoy the great food, drinks, and company.
A side, "LA-MEX" (Louisiana + Mexican) is a term describing a regional cuisine that blends food products available in Louisiana and the culinary creations of Mexican-Americans influenced by both Creole & Cajun cuisines.
Creole cuisine is a style of cooking, closely identified with New Orleans culture, which blends French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Native American, and African influences, as well as general Southern cuisine, and Cajun cuisine is a similar style of cooking named for French-speaking Acadian or "Cajun" immigrants that came to Louisiana and utilized local ingredients to prepare meals from their homeland. The heavy use of seafood, steak or chicken served with tortillas, melted cheese, rice and beans, seasoned with a combination of jalapeño & cayenne peppers characterize LA-Mex cuisine.
Our History
SERVING LAFAYETTE'S FAVORITE BURGERS AND LA-MEX SINCE 1987
Want to know more about Burger Tyme History? Burger Tyme is home of the original Cajun Blaze. This iconic restaurant was established in 1987 by Braxton Moody IV in Lafayette, Louisiana and went on to contribute one of the area’s favorite hamburgers of all time. Mr. Moody grew up in Crowley, Louisiana, graduated from Crowley High, the Bank Administration Institute’s School of Banking, National Commercial Lending School, USL (now ULL) with an accounting degree, and earned his CPA certificate. Mr. Moody went on to excel in many industries and serve his community as chairman of the board of Lafayette City Deanery Catholic Schools, co-chairman of the business phase of Saint Thomas More High School, board member of Saint Thomas More High School, Lafayette Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and Evangeline Area Boy Scouts, as well as, an active member of Lafayette’s Chamber of Commerce.
Braxton Moody IV has a passion for the restaurant industry and worked his way around the country in various fast-food and casual dining concepts. He originally created the delightful Cajun Blaze Seasoning in his kitchen, while raising five children and deciding what to do with vacant real estate during one of Lafayette’s worst economic downturns (1980’s oil bust).
Out of necessity, the legend was born.
In addition to the famous Cajun Blaze hamburger, Burger Tyme went on to create many other crowd pleasers like the Bon Temps Poulet sandwich/salad, and the Cajun Crawfish & Shrimper sandwich.
Braxton retired the Burger Tyme restaurant in 2000 to move on to other ventures and to spend more time hunting and fishing with his three sons and two daughters. Through the years, many fans have requested the return of Burger Tyme and have continued to keep the name alive through many stories and internet message boards. Until now, these famous recipes were not accessible to the public.
